    Hitachi HW100 limitations

    Byetzion 19/03/2006

Not too long ago I have purchased a brand new Hitachi HW100 Workgroup Storage. 14+1 400GB SATA disks, dual-interface, each holding two fiber ports (2Gb/s LC). A nice machine. However, two limitations I have discovered are clouding my day: 1. It supports only Raid0 and Raid5. It will not allow me no-parity Raid, aka, Raid1….

    Orinoco_pci finally working correctly!

    Byetzion 09/03/2006

After upgrading my laptop to 2.6.15.1 kernel, hibernation worked flawlessly. Running my previous version of kernel – 2.6.14.2, I have had some hibernation instabilities. I’ve had some memory corruptions here and there, which would have required I reboot the machine. So far, and it’s been a while, I’m glad to say I had no reason…

Power Supply failure – the wrong type of failure

    Byetzion 05/03/2006

I’ve lost an external DAS (Direct Attached Storage) today. Not lost as in could not find, but lost due to power supply failure. I’ve been home, got a phone call saying all the company’s Unix storage, which is contained on a DAS including two 72GB HDDs in a mirror (DiskSuite on Solaris8) is not available….

    Kernel update – 2.6.15.1

    Byetzion 03/03/2006

Alongside a newer kernel, I’m enjoying a newer Software Suspend2 package. I am not crazy about betas, or RCs, so now I’m on the 2.2 stable. I have hibernated only once since I’ve upgraded kernel, but it went just fine on the first try, so I’m rather ok with it without setting a set of…

A bug in restore in Centos4.1 and probably RHEL 4 update 1

    Byetzion 26/02/2006

I’ve been to Hostopia today. The land of hosting servers. I’ve had an emergency job on one Linux server, due to a mistake I’ve made. It appears that the performance hindrance of using raid0 instead of raid1 (Centos/RH default raid setup is raid0 and not raid1, which led me to this mistake) for the root…

    Byetzion 15/02/200610/12/2023

I’m in the process of installing VCS on two guest (virtual) Linux nodes, each using the following setup: 256MB RAM One local (Virtual) HDD, SCSI channel 0 Two shared (Virtual) HDDs, SCSI channel 1 Two NICs, one bridged, and one using /dev/vmnet2, a personal Virtual switch. The host (carrier) is a Pentium 3 800MHz, with…
